Oriental Medicine has a lot to offer pediatrics whether it is to treat a health concern or maintain wellness through preventative treatments. Infants, babies, and children are treated with a combination of Chinese herbal medicine, laser acupuncture, and Shonishin, a needle-free Japanese modality that traces back to the 17th century. In Shonishin treatments, handmade tools are used to rhythmically tap, rub, and press the skin to create a variation of gentle stimulation sensations on specific acupuncture points and meridians. Other modalities are used as needed, such as cupping, guasha, and moxa. This combination approach offers a practical alternative to pharmaceuticals in the treatment of childhood health problems.
Babies and children respond quickly to treatment and therefore usually need less treatments than adults, depending on the severity and duration of the condition being treated. Treatments are most
effective when given several times per week until symptoms are alleviated. They will usually be short in duration and are administered quickly, usually within 15-20 minutes, and are normally done with
the child wearing a diaper or shorts. Many measures are taken to ensure the child’s comfort and parents are encouraged to bring in their child’s favorite toy, stuffed animal, or blanket. Depending on
the age of the child, Chinese herbs are utilized in different easy to prepare and consume forms, such as glycerin extracts. If a Chinese herbal formula is right for your child, all details will be explained in
the clinic and questions answered.
At Harmonizing Healthcare, we believe in treating the root cause of illness, not just the symptoms.
