Journey Within: Tend Your Inner Garden

In this week’s newsletter, I want to shed some light on the benefit of self study and meditation.

The benefit of taking time to go within, observe your thoughts and feelings, grow awareness of your wants, needs, dreams, desires, as well as notice your habits, strengths, and weaknesses.

I will be introducing an essential oil in this week’s video below that can aid you in this journey of deeper connection, awareness, and rediscovery of self.

Your Inner GardenSomeone once told me once that meditation is like tending your inner garden. It is loving yourself, and others, enough to check in on your mental, emotional, and physical ecology, and to discover what within you is fostering growth and what is not.
I believe that we, as humans who have the unique ability to be conscious of ourselves and how we show up in the world, have a responsibility to deepen this awareness.

Growing awareness of self provides us with the tools to approach the world around us from a space of inner peace and greater clarity. But to receive the benefits of this practice, we must remain objective. The point is not pass judgement on what our inner ecology looks like, for it will not grow under those harsh conditions. But rather, by seeing yourself from a space of acceptance, so that you may begin to view the world around you through lenses untainted by judgement, assumptions, false perceptions, or knee jerk reactions.

When we truly know ourselves,  we can better understand that the external distractions and agitators, actually stem from within. And with this understanding, we begin to experience our lives with more acceptance and compassion, and less anxiety, anger, or judgement.

Coming back to the garden analogy, I wanted to offer some questions as a starting point for your journey within. Feel free to use these questions as a guide for silent contemplation, or use them as inspiration for written meditation. Either way, I hope these questions bring you insight and inspire further self awareness to Guided Self Inquiry: a walk through your gardenWhen you step into your inner garden, without judgement, what do you see?
Is there an order to your garden or is it wild and free?
What seeds (goals, thoughts, habits) have been planted?
Which ones are you watering (giving energy to) each day?
Are any plants being over or under watered?
Which plants (aspects of your life) are thriving, bearing fruits or flowers?
Are there any wilting plants? Or plants growing out of control?
Are there any invasive species (negative thoughts, tendancies, patterns) that have crept into your garden and are prohibiting the growth of other plants?
Are there any plants (ideas or ventures) that just aren’t working anymore with your inner ecology and need to be removed or rethought?
What about the quality of the soil (physical aspects, what we feed and surround ourselves with mentally, emotionally, and physically)?
Does your soil seem nutrient dense, or lackluster?

Have you welcomed in help from worms or ladybugs (positive relationships) to help turn the soil and protect against harmful bugs?
Or are aphids and other threats attacking your garden (negative relationships)?
As you take a step back once more to observe your entire garden what are the feelings arise, noticing without judgement?
As you begin to leave your garden, what plans are you putting in place for your next visit?

We hope you feel inspired to visit your inner garden and begin or deepen your meditation practice.
